Severe Weather Plan

Skyterra is located in a rainforest and we often have at least one rainy day per week. If you are visiting during a severe storm, we may need to implement our plan below.

Level One Storm Alert

  • Storm conditions: less than 5 inches rain or less than 3 inches snow; icy roads; thunder and lightning
  • Precautions:
    • Please do not walk, hike or drive golf carts during a storm
    • Call Guest Services for a ride to the activity building
    • Use caution when walking in mud, snow or ice. We will place salt to prevent ice AND surfaces may be slippery.
  • Accommodations:
    • Hikes and other outdoor recreation may be substituted for indoor activities
    • Pickleball classes will move to an indoor court when available.
  • Power outage:
    • In the event of an intermittent power outage, we will distribute battery-operated lanterns for your use

Level Two Storm Alert

  • Storm conditions: less than 10 inches rain or less than 5 inches snow; ice storm; thunder and lightning. Flooding and longer power outages are likely.
  • Precautions: Same as Level One
  • Accommodations: Same as Level One
  • Power outage: Same as Level One and:
    • Our well pumps rely on electricity, so in the event of an extended power outage, we will provide bottled water for drinking and gallon jugs for flushing toilets. Please leave empty jugs on your porch and we will refill.

Level Three Storm Alert

  • Storm conditions:
    • More than 10 inches rain or 8 inches snow within 8 hours; ice storm
    • Disaster designation declared for Transylvania, Henderson and Buncombe counties. Be aware that evacuation may be in your best interest.
    • In the event of a disaster designation, we will discuss the necessity of evacuating to a nearby county or you may choose to leave and return in the future to use your unused program time.
  • Precautions: Same as Levels One and Two

Power outage: Same as Level Two
